A Short Story About Vinegar

As a naturally occurring substance, vinegar can be any alcoholic beverage exposed to air. Vinegar has been used for many purposes such as medicinal, flavoring agent, food substances, and a preservative.

Once upon a time there was a young princess who was locked away in a glass castle. Her name was Apple Cider. She was as lovely as an autumn day, sweet and bubbly. Many men swooned over her, finding her company brief yet intoxicatingly delightful. However there was one thing that the princess longed for which was strictly forbidden, she wanted to go outside the castle’s glass walls and explore the world. Days past and the princess would look out her glass window and dream of the adventures she could be having if she weren’t stuck in here.

Once day Apple was wondering the castle alone when she climbed to the very top of the stairs and found herself in a part of the castle she had never been in before. She noticed the ceiling had a latch that might lead to the outside world. Excitement overcame her at this discovery. But immediately she frowned, her parents had warned her the dangers that lurked outside the castle. Soon her curiosity overtook her and she released the latch. Fresh air came rushing in, and the princess took her opportunity for freedom.

                Princess Apple didn’t know the first thing about the outside world. She gazed at the sky seeing clearly how blue it was without the glass blocking her view. She was amazed by the fresh air that brushed her cheek. At that moment, out of thin air it seemed, a man appeared. He looked strong but was light on his feet and very handsome. He stared at the princess and she stared back at him. Some might say it was love at first sight, and indeed it was. The handsome man kneeled down kissing the princess’s hand he looked up and said, “You are the most beautiful girl I have ever laid eyes on. My name is Skylar Air, it is a pleasure to meet you” Blushing the princess replied with a giggle, “You’re not too bad yourself. I’m Apple and the pleasure is all mine.” Skylar, who seemed to be made out of air himself, picked up the princess and carried her into the clouds where they spent many of their days falling deeper and deeper in love with each other.

                The King and Queen, Apple’s parents, noticed her absence when she didn’t show up to dinner that night. They became very worried and searched the entire castle. After nothing could be found, they sent the guards to go out and look for their beloved daughter. When hope became thin, and the king and queen were just about to give up, the guards had returned and with them they brought the princess. She was glowing, walking hand in hand with a foreign man. Apple explained herself and her love affair, the king was furious but eventually forgave her, for he too fell in love with his queen a similar way. Soon time passed and the princess announced she was expecting an heir.

                The day of delivery came and a baby boy was born, his sharp screams of life let the castle know of his arrival. He was a striking baby, with a bittersweet smile. “What shall we name him?” Skylar asked. “I like Vinegar” she said. Thus Vinegar, decedent of the families Air and Cider, was brought to the world and quickly became loved by all.
